Berlin, 27th November to 2nd December 2018
Festival director: Christine Schmalor
Since 1999, METHODIKA festival has been taking place on a regular basis, an opportunity for the newest ideas about theatre training methods and education to be exchanged.
This year, METHODIKA is dedicated to the resonance of Jurij Alschitz’ teachings. With this in mind, artists having received significant inspiration from studies with Jurij Alschitz have been invited to lead workshops, interactive presentations and lectures: how have these studies sparked individual artistic development? What new work methods have flourished as a result?
The European Team of Teachers from the World Theatre Institute AKT-ZENT will lead this edition of Methodika and will work – together with the invited colleagues – around the following themes:
- Improvisation as creative strategy / Dr. Olga Lapina, Lithuania
- Ritual and Metaphysics in the process of creation / Dimitris Tsiamis, Greece
- Training as Method: the exercise as a way to the stage / Riccardo Palmieri, Italy
- The Actor’s Musicality as a creative source / Christine Schmalor, Germany
For each day, contributions in the form of trainings, exercises, lectures and performance lectures are provided by colleagues who present their ideas, experimenting with new formats of communication and seeking dialogue with Jurij Alschitz and all other participating artists.
On the fifth day of the festival, Saturday 1st of December, Jurij Alschitz will give participants an introduction to his new research project on holistic theatre. The closing discussion in the afternoon should serve as a résumé of prospects for the future and provide room for new ideas.
We will be celebrating 20 years of AKT.ZENT’s studio in Berlin with a memorable final party.
